AMATEUR BOXING.

The Palmerston North Amateur Boxing Club arc holding their grand opening tournament at Havilfs Stadium on Wednesday July 17, at 8 p.m. Jhe club lias -one to some considerable expense to make this tourney a success, bringing boxers from Dancvirke, Fcilding, Marton, Stanwav and Shannon. The star bout between J Wilson (Marton) and B. Downes (Marton) should bo one of the best six rounds seen here, as \\ ilson has had sixtyfive fights, winning forty-five of them. Those boxers met in Marton a few weeks ago in a four-round bout, and Downes should give Wilson a good go over six rounds. The four-round bout between U. Gibbons (Feilding), and R. Farrow (Alarton) will bo the second star attraction. The following bouts will also bo of interest.:—Midgets: Stafford (Marton) v. G. Hastings (P.N.). Flyweights: 11. Hcnwood (Marton) v. T. St root. Bantamweight: J Johnson (Feilding) v. J. Collins (P.N.). Middleweight: R. Beacon (Marton) v. G. Johnson (P.N.); D. Dully (Feilding) v. V. G. Hayes (Shannon). Lightweight: W. McPhail (Dancvirke) v. J. bavin (P.N.): J. Lisscttc (Dannevirke) v. J. O’Neil (P.N.) ; D. Anncsley (Shannon) v. W. Strange (P.N.). Welterweight: A. Duncan (Stanway) v. R Stucld (Dannevirke). Featherweight: A. Cantwell (Feilding) v. W. Porter (Shannon). There will be special lighting effects, and the Automobile Association attendants will look after cats.
