SHEEP LOST OVERBOARD.

VALUABLE STUD EWES. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, July 15. The loss overboard of a crate of valuable stud Corriedale ewes is reported by wireless from the steamer Westmoreland. Tlie sheep formed part of the purchase made in the Dominion by Dr. Gallinal Heber, a leading Uruguayan pastoralist, who leftfor Australia and South Africa bv the Monterey on Friday. Fortunately a stud ram, also the property of Dr. Heber, was not lost, and the remainder of bis purchase has not yet been shipped. News of the loss of the sheep was received by Dr. Heber’s agents in a message which stated: “Ten ewes washed overboard; rams safe.” The consignment on the Westmoreland consisted of over 40 sheep, housed in crates. The Westmoreland left Auckland last Wednesday, and so won hi have been about 600 miles on her way to Cape Horn at the time of the accident, which was probably due to a heavy following sea. It is understood that the consignment is fully insured.
