Mr and Mrs A. Adsett, of Colyton, left last week on a trip to the South Sea Islands. Misses Murphy, of Spur Road, Colyton, have returned from a visit to Auckland. Miss E. M. "Watts, who has been spending a vacation with her parents in Levin, has returned to Palmerston North. At the meeting of the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday afternoon it was reported that Nurse Railey had been operated upon for appendicitis, and was now convalesent. Friends of Mrs Thelma Anderson will regret to learn that she has had to enter hospital. Sho is doing as well as can be expected. Miss M. Daniell, M.A., Dip. Ed., of the Napier Girls’ High School, has resigned her position, and will leave shortly for England, where she will take a post-graduate course at the London School of Economics, and at King’s College, London University. The Palmerston North Hospital Board, yesterday afternon, passed a resolution of condolence with the relatices of the late Miss Enda Smart, formerly a nurse at the Hospital and the Old People’s Home. Nurse Smart recently passed away alter a long illness.

Miss Ruth Macky, of Auckland, has received an appointment as secretary to Mr G. W. Clinkard, recently appointed to the newly-created post of trade commissioner for New Zealand in Europe. The party will tour New Zealand until the end of September when they will leave to join the Mongolia at Sydney on October 4, en route tor Brussels, where their headquarters will be. "WILLARD HOME. The "Williard Homo Board held its first meeting in the new financial year yesterday afternoon when Mrs E. A. Collins presided. Others present were Mesdames A. "W. Just, J. A. McLeavey, E.- C. Barnett, G. H. Bennett, D. J. Lovelock, T. R. Hodder, K. McDonald, J. W. McC'onnon, It. Port, J. Pointon, E. B. Jennings, A. Andrews, Miss McLagan, and Mrs E. A. Birdsail (secretary-treasurer). Mrs D. "Watson, who recently resigned her seat on the board, introduced Mrs Just to the members, the latter having been appointed to fill the vacanacy. Mrs Purvis was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mrs M. Aitchison, who had withdrawn owing to her other public duties preventing her from being present on the regular meeting day. A beautiiully dressed doll, which was greatly admired by all, was on view, having been donated by an anonymous donor. It was decided to make application for permission to conduct a raffle. The matron’s report stated that the health of the children was good and that matters pertaining to the Home had been operating satisfactorily. Mrs BirOsall reported that an excellent response had been forthcoming to the appeal for financial support, although it had involved considerable correspondence. Mesdames Hodder and McLeavey reported having visited the Home during the month when everything had been found to be in perfect order. Mesdames McConnon and Just were appointed the visiting committee for the ensuing month. Acounts amounting to £26 17s 7d was passed for payment. COMING-OF-AGE DANCE.

On Thursday night, July 11, Mr and "Mrs W. W. Hearsey entertained some 120 guests in the Takaro Hall in honour of the coming-of-age of their twin son and daughter, Raymond and Irma. The hall was artistically decorated in shades of cherry and green. Music was supplied by Mr H. George and party.. Items were rendered by Mr Baker (songs), and little Ivyra Hearsey (recitations). Extras were contributed by Miss Zita Leamy and Mr D. Morris. Several toasts were honoured, Mr W. Brown being the toastmaster. The toast of the guests of honour was proposed by Mr Brown and that of their parents by Mr Brown, with the response by Mr Hearsey. Paper streamers and numerous noisy creations were distributed and added greatly to the enjoyment. Mrs W. W. Hearsey received her guests wearing a cherry colour georgette frock and black ring velvet evening coat, and was ably assisted by her daughter, Miss Irma Hearsey, wearing a trained frock 01 silver lame relieved with cerise velvet camellias. The twins, who really did not come of age until midnight, had a surprise parcel presented to them by Mr Brown at that hour and the contents caused much laughter. Each received a silver key, also given by Mr Brown. The keys were handed round for each guest to sign. The beautiful two-tier cake with 21 kewpies on the top and 21 candles on the lower deck and the proverbial “key of the door” held pride of place. Supper was served with dainties of savouries and sweets. Many beautiful presents were received by the twins, conveying all good wishes and congratulations. Four prizes were presented to winners of the lucky Gay Gordons and lucky spot dance. Mr W. Brown carried out tlio duties of M.O. OYSTER RECIPES. Angels on Horseback.—Simmer tilt oysters for 10 minutes, dry and roll each one in a thin slice of uncooked bacon. Fix on skewers and grill or fry in butter, for eight minutes Serve very hot with a squeeze of lemon juice and cayenno pepper to taste. Baked oysters.—Oysters' may be baked in a buttered enamel baking tin after sprinkling them with a mixture of breadcrumbs, mace, pepper, salt, and cayenne. A few lumps oi butter should be put on tile top, and a little milk should be added for moistening. Bake for 20 to 30 minutes.

Oyster salads.—For an oyster salad ste\y two dozen cooking oysters in their own liquor for 15 minutes. When cold, chop them up into small piece!and toss them into a salad bowl will' chopped celery, shredded lettuce am. tartare sauce. To make another delicious salad, parboil one pint of oysters, drain and cool them. Take the pulp from two halved grapefruit and mix it with the cooled oysters. Add four tablespoonfuls tpmato ketchup, half a tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, a few drops tabasco, and a little salt. Fill the grapefruit shells with the mixture and garnish with curled celery. Italian oysters.—Take one dozen oysters, breadcrumbs, butter, pepper, ilb. macaroni, one gill milk, lemon. Cook the macaroni in boiling water for 15 minutes. Drain it, butter a pie-dish, and put the macaroni in the bottom. Cut the oysters in four and place on the macaroni. Season with pepper and lemon-juice and pour over them the milk. Cover with breadcrumbs, with pieces of butter on top; bake till brown and sorve very hot. Scalloped oysters.—You will need oysters, butter, parsley, white wine, flour, breadcrumbs. Blanch and beard the oysters, and put them into a pan wit!} their own liquor, a little glass of white wine (chablis preferred). Do not on any account allow them to boil. Take out the oysters and put them into well-buttered scallop shells. Beduce the sauce and add to it a little flour and butter to thicken it. Pour the sauce over the oysters, sprinkle them well with breadcrumbs, place pieces of butter on top, and brown in the oven in a baking tin.
