SHANNON
(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, July 14. A meeting convened by tho Makcrua Drainage Board was held in Shannon to discuss the maintenance of the Mangaorc Stream banking. Mr H. Seifert (chairman of the Makcrua Power Board) presided and the Shannon Borough Council and Buckley Drainage Board were also represented. It was resolved that representatives from each local body wait on the acting-Prime Minister, and Minister of Public Works, to discuss the position. On Friday evening the Young Men’s Club held a very enjoyable dance. Though there was not a large attendance, patrons had a pleasant time. The. music was supplied by an orchestra consisting of club members and received favourable comment.
With the opening of the Public Works Department offices, Palmerston North, several Mangaorc and Shannon residents will be transferred by the end of this month. Messrs P. Bass, A. Coates, and F. Hewitt have already taken up their residence, and among others to go shortly arc Messrs T. R. Robinson, W. King, J. Simpson, and Miss R. Blackwood. Members of the Golf Club took advantage of the ideal weather during the weekend to play championship games. Invitations are out for the annual golf dance to be hold shortly. The annual meeting of the Bowling Club is to be hold this week. During the off-season the greens have received attention, and it is expected that they will bo in better playing condition than they were last year. Tile late Mr W. Vickers who passed away at I.evin on Friday had many friends locally, lie and hie family being residents of Shannon for many years, and a number of citizens attended the funeral in Levin on Sunday.
