FOXTON
(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, July 15. Mr H. Podmorc was elected secretary of tho Druids' Lodge last week. Mr R. 1.. Heath bos received a postcard from Mr R. Owen who, a.t the time of writing, had just visited Mr Heath’s old home and spent an evening with his relatives. Mr and Mrs Owen had visited Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness and were on the point of leaving for Ireland. Miss S. Henderson, a former Foxton resident, was martied in Wellington yesterduy morning and in the afternoon sailed with her husband for South Africa. At a committee meeting of tho Foxton Horticultural Society considerable time was devoted to tho revision of tho schedule for the spring show. An enjoyable time was spent on Friday evening when members of the Terrace End Troop, t nder Scoutmaster Hogg, paid a visit to the Foxton Scouts. Various games were indulcd in, interspersed with musical and vocal items. In a game of handball Foxton were defeated I—o. At the monthly meeting cf the Women’s Christian Temperance Union the visit of Miss McKay was discussed and arrangements made. Afternoon tea was served by tho hotessco, Mcsdamcs Hinds, T. East, Ifrowrt and Rail'd.
The annual report of tho president of the Foxton Rowling Club (Mr Jno. Ross) states, inter alia: —“The club has held its own through the difficult financial period. The year commenced with an overdraft of £145. less outstanding subscriptions £6 15s, making a total of £l3B 14s 4d. and finished with an overdraft of £147 3s Bd, creditors nil, subscriptions outstanding £lO 3s 4d, making £137 Os 4d. 'The club’s property is in good order and repair, and tho greens have been kept in excellent order. The ■ membership consist of 34 playing mcmlrers and four life members. Subscriptions paid during the year just closed amounted to £63 6s Bd, as against £SB 8s 6d hi the previous year. Tho playing season lias been a most successful one in every wav, the club winning the Triangular Shield, playing and defending challenges for the Dixon, Manson and Barr and Hum Cups, whilst Matter's rink retains tho Awahoit and Kinnebcrg Feathers. It is most fitting to make special mention of the meritorious play of Thomson’s team in the Manawatu Bowling Centre’s champion of champions pairs and rinks contests. Tho club should bo most pleased at the unique performance of tho rink.”
