PARIS, June 25
M. Chiappc, the former police chief, has been elected president of the Municipal Council, otherwise Mayor.
M. Chiappc, the famous Prefect of Police in France, was removed from office following the Stavisky scandal and the subsequent rioting at Paris. The action was taken by the Government of M. Daladier, which succeeded that of AT. Chautemps, and shortly afterward gave way to that of M. Doumergue. M. Chiappe was offered a post as Re-sident-General of Morocco, but declined to accept it.
