(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, June 24. Tho annual meeting of the Shannon Croquet Club was held on Thursday afternoon, when thero was a full attendant o of members. In her report the president (Mrs Bluikie) stated that the past season was a most successful one, both financially and socially. Many intoi-club matches were playod Shannon securing a close second place in tho Sherwood Cup contest and tieing with the ’i akaro Club in second place ill the inter-club games arranged by tho Manawatu Centre. Tile club was also honoured by Mrs A. H. Morgan winning the Whittaker Cup. at the Dominion tournament, and hearty congratulations were extended to her. The club’s thanks wore extended to Mrs Snclling, for six years’ yeoman service as secretary and treasurer; her removal from the district

would be a great loss. Thanks were also extonded to the auditor (Mr B. J. Branii), to Mr Doidgo for bis unfailing attention to the lawns, and to the bowlers for many kindnesses. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £6 13s 9d, upon which the treasurer was heartily congratulated. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year;—President, Mrs J. T. Bovis; vico-president, Mrs G. Long-Ward; secretary and treasurer, Mrs B. J. Braun; committee, Mcsdames Blaikic, Morgan, Roach, Picard, and Moynihan. The Girls’ Club held a pleasant dance in the Parish Hall on Thursday ovoning. Supper was served by tho club members under the leadership of Miss Qaurrie, and Mr J. T. Bovis carried out the duties of M.C. A Young Men’s Club has recently been formed locally with a roll number of 30. An organisation of this kind was much needed in the town and the promoters aro to be congratulated upon their initiative. The Mayor (Mr E. Butt) lias consented to act as patron of the club. A visitor to Shannon on Friday was-Mr Hesford, who several years ago was in charge of the stores department of the Public Works Department at Mangaore.
