SNOW AND HURRICANE. IN EASTERN AUSTRALIA. BIG AREA AFFECTED. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received June 25, 10.25 a.m. SYDNEY, June 25. The Eastern States of Australia are experiencing extremely cold weather. Wide areas are covered with snow, and in many parts of Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria the temperatures have dropped to the lowest for years. Caught in a snowstorm near Taralga, an aeroplane crashed into a tree and was wrecked. The pilot escaped with a severe shaking. Hurricane conditions prevailed off tho South Australian coast. Intense cold in Southern Queensland caused heavy losses among the drought-weak-ened stock. HAVOC BY LIGHTNING. VISITATION IN GLASGOW RESIDENTS’ CLOSE CALL. Received June 25, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, June 24. Twenty houses were struck by lightning during a violent early-morn-ing storm at Glasgow. The roofs were torn off the houses, which were set on fire. Storm water, sometimes four feet deep, drove residents from their homes. A burst water main and the failure of the electric light increased the confusion. Fifteen residents of a tenement had barely reached the street when the roof tell in, penetrating three floors.
