IN BOMBAY COURT. AIAHARAJA’S BRUTALITY. Received June 24, 9.25 a.m. BOMBAY, June 23. A beautiful 16-year-old girl named Dharmey, stepping barefooted into the witness box in the High Court, related an extraordinary story when her brother applied to he established as her guardian. Dharmey gave evidence that her parents resided in Sirohi, where they suffered persecution and imprisonment. She went to the Alaliaraja of Sirohi’s bungalow and kneeled before the Alaliaraja and pleaded for mercy. The Alaharaja promised to release her parents. Dharmey later found herself a prisoner and was taken to another bungalow, where she was. lorced to become the Maharaja’s mistress. Three other girls were there in the same plight. Two months later Dharmey and the two girls were taken to a bungalow on Malabar Hill, Btfmbay. The Alaharaja followed and cohabited with them and made attempts to convert them to Mohammedanism. When they refused they were beaten. Subsequently Dharmey and the others climbed the bungalow wall at midnight and escaped. They took refuge in a children’s rescue home. The Court was informed that Dliarmey’s parents had been brought to Bombay under alleged promises and threats in order to claim their daughter, relieving the difficult situation in which, the Maharaja found himself, but Dharmey and her brother refused to discontinue the proceedings. The Judge appointed her brother as Dharmey’s guardian and ordered that she be kept in Bombay.
