The Governor-General, Viscount Galway, accompanied by viscountess Galway, attended the second day of the Auckland Racing Club’s winter meeting at Ellerslie. This morning Lord and Lady Galway and their family left by motor car for Rotorua. This evening they will be received by the Mayor and citizens of Rotorua and on Friday Their Excellencies will be received by the Maoris of the district. Thev will be entertained at a Alaori concert, while Saturday will be sightseeing. Their Excellencies and their family will return to Auckland on Sunday afternoon. Mr A. A. Aiiteliell (Ivairanga) was to-day re-elected chairman of the Mana-watu-Oroua River Board. Air W. AlcKenzie, of Palmerston North, his friends will regret to learn, is at present in hospital at Wellington. Mr C. Al. Littlejohn lias been appointed headmaster of the Auckland Grammar School in succession to Air H. J. D. Alahon, who recently resigned. Air Littlejohn is at present headmaster of the Takapuna Grammar School. One of the three New Zealanders who attended the King’s levee on May 30 was Colonel K. B. Tennent, a son of Air R. C. Tennent, of Woodville. Colonel Tennent, who resides in Whangarei, is at present on a holiday visit to England, and was invited recently by tho Scots Greys to spend a few days with them in barracks, an offer which he accepted. Colonel Tennent was born in Timaru. Ho went right through the war, landing at Gallipoli, and being a member of the rearguard in the evacuation. Up to the Armistice he participated in the Palestine campaign. In recent years, Colonel Tennent has been officer commanding the North Auckland Alounted Rifles. Air L. J. Walker, headmaster of tho Rongotea School, has resigned his appointment. Air J. L. Nodwell is to act as relieving headmaster until a permanent appointment is made. At a meeting of the School Committee Air W. Amies (the chairman) expressed regret on behalf of the committee that the state of Air Walker’s health made it necessary for him to retire. During the four years he had beon in charge the school' had maintained a high record for efficiency and environment. He moved that this be recorded on the minutes and the motion was carried. Mr Walker expressed his thanks for the help he had received from the committee, and hoped the school would maintain its present grade.
