Mrs J. Wynne-Jones, of Palmerston North, is the guest of her mother, Mrs H. Gaze, of Hamilton. Mrs H. Stocker, of Hamilton, who has been spending several weeks’ holiday at Palrnerston North and Wellington, has returned home. Mrs Horner, of Inglewood, is at present visiting her daughter, Mrs Clark, of Feilding. The Willard Children’s Home has received a donation of . on© guinea from the Ladies’ Bridge Club per Mrs H. Griggs. ' The engagement is announced of Phyllis Frances Harriette, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs It. H. Meade, of Palmerston North, to Gordon Keith, younger son of Mrs W. Itoss, of Wellington, and the late Mr W. Itoss, of Palmerston North. A very pleasant evening was spent on Monday night when a surprise party visited Mrs H. Bennett, of Awahuri, where a number of their friends enjoyed games and dancing and musical items, the latter being contributed by Miss Bennett and Mesdames? E. Bennett, R. Bennett and M. Bennett. The party was closed with hoarty voices singing “Auld Lang Syne.” DELICIOUS. ICING. WOMEN’S INSTITUTES. NORTH WELLINGTON FEDERATION The executive of the North AVellington Federation of Women’s Institutes held a meeting in Palmerston North recently. Miss M. Grant presided, there being also present: Mesdamcs Waring Taylor A. C. AlcCorkindale (Feilding), Guthrie (Rangiwahia), A. J. Will (Rongotea), E. E. Short (Cheltenham), A. P. Easton (Foxton), T. Lynch (Linton), Marumaru (Bulls), S. Bavnicoat (Kimbolton), and W. G. Short (Lon. secretary, Cheltenham). An apoiogy for absence was received from Mrs A. Iv. Drew (Sandon). As this was the first meeting of the newly-elected executive, the president extended a welcome to members, particularly to Mrs Marumaru, who was taking her seat for the first time. Miss Grant also offered congratulations to Mrs Guthrie in the honour that had been conferred upon her by being made the recipient of a Jubilee Medal, good wishes being also conveyed to Mrs McCorkindale on being elected president of the Feilding branch ot the Plunket Society. Both ladies returned thanks. Correspondence was dealt with, that concerning holiday houses and the British Drama League being referred to the respective committees. Mrs Barnicoat ;treasurer) presented the financial statement and accounts were passed for payment. The following sub-committees were appointed :—Finance : The officers. Organising: General committee. Education : The officers and Mrs Guthrie, Mrs McCorkindale (convener). Handcrafts: Members re-elected, with the addition of Mrs Marumaru, Mrs E. E. Short (convener). Holiday houses: Re-elected; Mrs Waring Taylor convener. Drama, etc. : Re-elected, with the addition of Mrs Marumaru : Mrs Easton (convener). Arrangements were finalised in connection with the forthcoming display of shop windows to be made by the institutes at the Jubilee Show. Reports to hand were most encouraging and indicate that the exhibition will be of a high standard, and of pleasing variety to provide particular interest. The consensus of opinion being against holding elimination drama festivals at Foxton and Feilding, it was resolved to continue as in former years, the festival to be held in Palmerston North in the second week of August. Mrs Waring Taylor was appointed delegate to attend the annual general meeting to be held in Auckland in July, and remits to be dealt with at that meeting were before the committee for consideration.
