BUTTER’S WELCOME RECOVERY

LONDON, May 25,

The butter market made a welcome recovery this week, prices lor Australian and New Zealand advancing 4s while Continental varieties also hardened materially. 'there has been heavy buying, largely ot a speculative character. Smaller arrivals of the Dominions butters here coincided with tiro news of a lurther decline in producton in Australia. The market is distinctly firm at the advance and though the stocks in cold store are large the outlook is regarded as satisfactory,, tor consumption is being well maintained. The cheese position is by no means as favourable. There is little inquiry for Australian and New Zealand, even at the low prices prevailing, for English cheese is plentiful, and veij cheap. The demand for apples is increasing. Trices realised slightly better, quality fruit improving as the season advances.

Tire pear trade also shows an improvement as supplies from feoutli Africa are diminishing. - The outlook for both apples and pears is promising.
