THE COMPETITIONS
YESTERDAY MORNING’S SESSION. The annual festival of the Manawatu Competitions Society was continued yesterday in tire Empire Hall in the presence of a. large gathering of parents, teachers and musiclovers. Eight classes, which embraced elocutionary, pianoforte, vocal and dancing, were adjudicated upon, the awards l>eing made in two instances. In the other instances recalls only were determined, the pupils so favoured being required to again appear at the evening performance. The results of the classes heard in the morning are as under: RECITATION. (Girls, 9 and under 12.) Recalls. —Lorn a Whitehead (Woodville), Noeline Perrin. Yvette Crantmond (Wanganui), Eileen Tucker. Also competed.—Roua Hill (Rongotea), Shirley Graham* Gwen Graham, Patricia Kneebone, Nola Ayson. RECITATION. (Boys, under 12.) Final. —Ronald Treniain (Feilding), 81 points, 1; Rae Jenkins, 75, points, 2; Teddy Patten, 74 points, 3. PIANO SOLO. (16 and under 18 years.) Recalls. —Shirley Henderson. Donald Kirk by (Hawera), Winifred Buchanan. Also competed.—Cora Klee, Ruth Tunnicliffe (Hawera). HIGHLAND FLING. (10 and under 13 years.) Recalls. —Joa.tt Peters (Wanganui), Hazel Aliller (Hastings), Mavis Peterana. Also competed. —Patricia Cole, Mary McSweeney, Afarjorie Ramsden (Martinborough), Valerie Anderson, Alargaret O’Connor, Constance Burke (Alasterton), Lorraine Baldwin. Nola Ford, Betty Waller, Joyce Waller, Venice Hemmingsen. RECITATION (Humorous). (Girls under 16.) Recalls.—Rona .Hill, Julia Kendrick (Feilding), Helen London. Also competed.—Helen Goldfinch (Feilding). PIANO SOLO. (12 and under 14 years.) Recalls.—Alaisie Belk, Betty Jones, Tony Pierard. Also competed.-—Beulah Tnrr, Pearl Haydon, Dorothy McDowell, Robin Kirkby (Hawera). SEANTRUIBHAIS. (12 and under 17.) Recalls.— Isa McKenzie, Ethnc Hemmingsen, Joan Peters (Wanganui). Also competed.—Constance Burke (Alasterton), Claude Henderson, Joyce Wailer, Lucy Cronin, Kathleen Burke (Alasterton), Dorothy Ramsay (Napier), Alans Poterana. VOCAL (Under 12 years.) Final.—Ronald Treniain (Feilding), 93pts, 1; John McNeilly, 69pts, 2; Alorris Aiaumler, G7pts, 3. The only competitors.
This evening’s programme will include the following items of special interest : A lecturette hv Aliss Gladys Wntkins on Bells and the Wellington National War Memorial Cnrrillon; also a one-act play by the Aliison Women's Institute. At 7 o eloek on Wednesday the radio vocalist class will he broadcast from 2ZF and received in the Festival Hull.
