NEWBURY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ( NEWBURY, A lay 14. A social in aid of school funds was hold in the hall recently. There was a large attendance and a jolly evening was spent A professional orchestra provided the music for the dance. Items were rendered by the school children, Keith Vorry and Colin Wood singing the solos: Airs Cameron and Miss Taylor pianoforte duct: Air Cronin, Airs Alorrison (.Suva), songs; Air MeGviffen, recitation; Aliss Thompson, musical monologue; and Aliss .lean Scott, dancing. Every item was encored. Accompaniments were played by Alesdanics Cameron and Little and Aliss Taylor. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Air anti Airs Payne, Air Baker and partner winning the waltz competition. The Lucky Gay Gordons for children was won by Master L. Knight and Alargaret Alacaulay. The cake donated by Mrs Cheetliam was won by Airs Schramm. A committee cf the Parents’ Association were responsible for the supper arrangements. The euchre and dance saw a large attendance and the games were keen, Ihe prizes going to: —Ladies, Aliss Kirk 1, Airs Satlicrley 2; men, Air Davis 1, All* Scrimshaw 2. The cake donated by Airs Al. G. ‘Hansen was wen by Aliss Selnvanim.

On Friday afternoon, break-up day, the pupils of l lie school arranged a cocticrt. Several parents were present. The children, under tiie chairmanship of Keitli Vorry, conducted the concert in a very capable manner. Items were given by the girls, a corner solo by Colin Wood and drill by the hoys Afternoon lea was served bv the girls. The children look the opportunity of farewelling their teachers. Very pretty bouquets made by Albs E. Choetnam were presented to Mrs Callaway and Aliss Lumsden: Paul Callaway received a fountain pen from his schoolmates: Miss Lumsden. a crystal \lisli: and Mr R. P. Callaway a smokers’ set. Geoffrey Meehan played the accompaniments to the songs on a mandolin guitar.
