BYRD EXPEDITION.

THANKS TO DOMINION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 14. Rear-Admiral It. E. Byrd, who arrived in Wellington this morning, will depart to-morrow bv the Rangitiki for Balboa, where he will join tlie Jacob Ruppert for the return of the expedition to the United States. In an interview to-night he expressed great appreciation to the New Zealand Government for the facilities extended in furtherance of his scientific mission. The American people would also appreciate what had been done for the expedition when he returned to the United States and reported to them. The great friendship which the Government and private people had shown w-ould, he believed, make for an even better understanding _ between rsew Zealand and the li nited States. It was most gratifying to the expedition to find that the New Zealand Government had recognised their efforts tor science.
