VIRTUE OF FAITH.
A FUNDAMENTAL QUALITY. GOVERNOR’S PARTING COUNSEL. “Well, I go Home with Her Excellency after hve years of sojourn in this loveiy laud, which 1 for my part like to regard as the Britain of the Pacific, with the firm conviction that the maintenance and integrity of the British Empire are essential to world progress and world peace, and that only those qualities which made the Empire in the past can maintain it in the future —namely, courage, honesty, enterprise and faith. Of these the most vital is resolute and unflagging faith — faith in God, faith in our country and Empire and their high purpose and destiny, and faith in ourselves.” These valedictory observations were made by the Governor-General, Lord Bledisloe, in Wellington last evening, when the public, at a farewell function, had expressed their great goodwill and affection for Their Excellencies. “Within our Empire family, whose members are now grown up and no longer children, there mat be transient differences of opinion, there may he fleeting clouds over the domestic sky,” he added, “but behind them, remember, is the impenetrable and irremovable blue of a firmament of indissoluble friendship, harmony and inseparable so'idarity. If we have but clear vision, robust ’ faith, and ever-increasing mutual knowledge within the shores of our Empire, a future of harmonious and confident progress (national and Imperial) is eternally assured.”
