THE ICY WASTES

fIETURN OF VESSELS,

OIL CARGO. / THE NEW TERRITORY. (United Press Asosciation.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received March 14, 12.5 p.m. CAPETOAVN, March 13. The Thorshavn, which discovered new territory in the Antarctic, made a two hours’ call here to land a whaleman who was struck by the immense flange of a whale, breaking both his legs. The captain said the coastline of the new land was over 300 miles in extent. The discovery was made possible by the disappearance of pack ice. The "land was barren and dry, and partly ice-covered. The only life was flocks of penguins. The Thorshavn is carrying 60,000 barrels of oil worth £150,000. The Discovery II has returned after an eight months’ oceanographic survey, including the South Shetlands and the Palmer archipelago.
