(By “Binocular.”! At the Victoria Park races yesterday Clangor finished fifth in the Brush Hurdles. “ho Poinbal gelding- Monastic, who has been spelling, has rejoined C. McCarthy’s team at Ricearton. Eetecm, who displayed distinct promise as a hurdler last season, has rejoined L. Knapp’s team at Awapuni looking burly and well. Cranford has rejoined T. H. Gillett’s team at Ricearton and was given halfpace work on the plough on Saturday. Although \Y. Broughton wrested the lead from L. J. Ellii at To Rapa on Saturday, the southern horseman reduced the advantage to one point on Monday. Their respective totals aro 61 and 60. According to a southern report Mr W. E. Hazlett has purchased Signaller for £4OO. It is presumed that (ho big Balboa gelding is destined for the jumping game. Mazir is reported from the north to have recovered from the effects of a rick in ttie stifle. He resumed work last week, but while lie will not now compete at the Ohinemuri meeting, ho has been entered for the Tauranga and Bay of Plenty meetings. The Ricearton trainer, F. Christmas, has recommissioned Honour’s La-s, and with her brother, Grey Honour, she will soon be reinstated in the active list. The same mentor is busy with Red Heckle’s brother who has not yet been named. The gate takings on the first day of the Waikato meeting amounted to £435 8s 6d as compared with £2lB 14s for the first day (Thursday) last year and £331 16s 6d on the second day (Saturday) last year. The club also enjoyed a big jump in its totalisator returns. The southern sportsman, Mr J. D. McDougall, had the misfortune to lose his two-year-old colt Abdication (Chief RulerTermination) as a result of intestinal trouble. Ho had only started in two races, but had shown great promise in his work. Azucar, winner of the Santa Anita Handicap at Los Angeles, was bred in England in 1928, being by Milesius from Clarice, by Pieton from Clarilaw, by Per•immon. Milesius is by Roi Herode from Nicola, by Symington. Woo Pat has gone on the right way since she raced at Pukekohe and has never looked better than at present, states a north- | ern writer. She was not handled to the best advantage at the above meeting, otherwise she would have been closer up at the finish. The racing Wee Pat is getting on the fiat will serve to put her in ' great order for the approaching jumping i season, when more money should come her | way. | Minerval was strongly supported in the . Banks Peninsula Cup, but' he gave his - backers a poor run. He was well back up I to tho home turn, and though the field ! closed up at this stage Minerval failed to run on. He will need to do a lot better than that to win, but the necessary improve- ; ment may come later on. After all he has not been strung up yet, and ho may , need more racing, after being off the scene 1 for more than a year.
