PERSONAL.

His last meeting of the Executive Council before his departure for England next Friday was attended yesterday by the Governor-General and President of the Council, Lord Bledisloe. The opportunity was taken by the Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes) and the Minister of Finance (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) to place on record tlieir appreciation of His Excellency’s services to New Zealand. Both paid tributes to the outstanding part played by the Governor-General during his term of office in New Zealand.

Messrs C. G. Dermer (chairman), P. G. Guy, W. A. Waters (engineer) and K. W. Eglinton (managing-secre-tary) proceeded to Wellington this morning to interview the Minister for Public Works in connection with matters affecting the interests of the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board.

Mr A. Hardie, of Palmerston North, who held the position of foreman to the Kairanga County Council for 12 years, is an inmate of the Hospital where he has been seriously ill for the past six months. In recognition of his long and faithful service, it was decided, at to-day’s meeting of the council, to grant Mr Hardie half-pay for a period of three months and to review the position at the end of that term.

Senior-Sergeant T. Moriarty, who until his promotion from the position of sergeant has been stationed at the Hamilton Police Station, is expected to arrive in Palmerston North to-mor-row and will take over his duties at this centre later .in the week in succession to Senior-Sergeant E. J. ‘Whitehouse, who has retired.' Mr M. AV. Voss was, at to-day’s meeting of the Ivairanga County Council, extended leave of absence during the remaining portion of the term of the council to enable him to visit Europe. Cr D. Collis, in formally moving that the necessary leave be granted, expressed the hope that Or Voss would have a most enjoyable trip, f r Voss, who will be accompanied by Mrs Voss, leaves from Wellington on Thursday, travelling via Sydney and Suez.
