The London committee of the British and Foreign Bible Society has asked His Excellency, Lord Biedisloe, Governor-General of New Zealand, to become a vice-president of the society, His Excellency has intimated his acceptance.

The friends of Mr Rosen will regret to learn that he has had to enter a private hospital to undergo an operation, and will wish him a speedy recovery.

The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Saturday of Mr W r alter Edlin, of Bolton Road. Weraroa, Levin. Mr Edlin, who was 74 years of. age, formerly resided at Foxton.

Mr D. L. Smith, who was for a long period associated with the Manawatu district, and who now resides in Hamilton, was in Palmerston North at the week-end and renewed many acquaintanceships.

Rev. D. B. Forde Carlisle, Palmerston .North, lias accepted a unanimous call to the pastorate of the Berhampore Baptist Church, Wellington South. Mr Carlisle will commence his ministry at Berhampore on Sunday, March 31.

Mr F. L. Irvine, of the Palmerston North staff of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Coy., Ltd-, has been promoted to the position of auctioneer at the Feilding branch, and will be taking up his new duties at an early date.

His Lordship Bishop Liston will leave Auckland on April 5 on ,an official visit to Rome, and will be abroad tor about eight months, during which lie will visit England, Ireland and Scotland. He will be accompanied by Very Rev. Monsignor Ormond, of St. Benedict’s, Newton, and Rt. Rev. Monsignor Delaney, of South Dunedin. Dr P. Stanley Foster, of Christchurch, the new District Governor of Rotary in New Zealand will leave Auckland by the Aorangi on April 2 for Canada. He will study new developments in surgery in Montreal‘and Toronto, and also in the United States, and in the middle of June he will attend the International Rotary Conference, at which some 53 nations will be represented, at Mexico City. Dr Foster will be the New Zealand representative both at the principal conference and at the conference of district governors preceding it. The conference is expected to conclude on June 21, and Dr Foster intends leaving for New Zealand by the Monterey from Los Angeles a few days later. After over 40 years’ service Mr D. C. Cameron has retired from the staff of Messis Reid and Gray. Ltd., Dunedin. Commencing as office boy in the premises of the company in Dunedin, he steadily rose to the position of director, and in later years he has been associated with the firm at Burnside Mr Camerson intends to take life quietly for a few months, devoting himself to some public bodies in which he is actively interested. He leaves his old firm with the best wishes of employer and employees and also of the farming community with which he has been doing business during his long period of service with his firm. Mr Cameron is a brother of Mr \V. B. Cameron, manager of the firm’s branch in Palmerston North.
