EARNINGS OF RAILWAYS.
INCREASE FOR FOUR WEEKS. AVELLINGTON, March 9. A net revenue of £168,472, or £21,203 more than for the corresponding period last year, is shown by the railway working account for the fourweekly period to February 2, an abstract to which is published in the Gazette.
The gross revenue was £595,633, which is £33,466 more than in_tbe cor-responding-period la.st year. Expenses amounted to £427,161, an increase of £12,263. Operating revenue in the North Island was £321,984, an. increase of £11,890. Expenses were £231,647, or £8331 greater. Net earnings .increased by £3559, from £86,778 to £90,337. 'ln the South Island receipts were £211,791, and expenses £163,654, increases of £18,527 and £2586 respectively. Net earnings increased by £15,941 to £48,137. Net revenue from miscellaneous services was £29,998, an increase of £1703. The gross revenue was £61,858 and the expenditure £31,860. Revenue for the 44 weeks from April 1 to February 2 was £5,371,541, an increase of £240,925 on the figure for the corresponding period last year. Expenses, totalling £4,632,313, were £309,623 higher. Net revenue, at £739,228, decreased by £68,698.
