TWO FRESH RECORDS EVENTS AT WANGANUI. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, March 10. The New Zealand amateur athletic championships were completed on Cook's Gardens on Saturday in fine weather. There was a Large attendance of the public. Two New Zealand records were broken, W. G. Bainbridge, of Auckland, covering the 220 yards in 21 3-ssec. and clipping two-fifths of a second off the circular track record, and F. A.- Finlayson, of Auckland, taking 55 3-ssec. for the 440 yards hurdles, which was one fifth of a second better than the record established last year by A. T. Anderson, of Canterbury. The championship shield was Fon by Auckland with 40 points, Wellington being second with 29. Then came Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay 20, Canterbury 20, West Coast (North Island) 16 and Otago 9. Auckla-nd also won the Queensland Memorial Shield with 21 points, Canterbury being run-ners-up with 9. Evans gained on the last corner and held his own to the finish, winning by about four yards. Darby stumbled on landing over a hurdle half-way. This put him out of the running and Finlayson held an advantage over the last obstacle tc come on and win nicely by a couple of yards, making a fresh New Zealand record. c , ~ Throwing the hammer. —M. Kerr (A.) 3. Time, 49 l-o Se After one break they got away well and Evans was overhauled by Iverr at the half-way, with Black commencing to move up and Bainbridge also handy. Black took the lead running to the turn, but Bainbridge was in front when they straightened up and, finishing resolutely, won by seven yards. Before they entered the final stages Coopei had lapped Weyrnan and came on to win by over 70 yards from his teammate 'Atton, who nearly lapped Weyman.
