SEQUEL TO COLLISION.
DAMAGES AWARDED. As the result of a collision between two motor vehicles in the Manawatu Gorge last May, a case was heard in Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, by Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., in which general and special damages totalling £54 3s were claimed by Evelyn Savage, of Inglewood, an infant, through D Arcv Harold Savage, a farmer, also of Inglewood, from B. O. Nicholson, an undertaker, of Winifeed Street, Napier Mr A. M. Ongley appeared for plaintiff and Mr H. R. Cooper for defendant. . .. , The statement of claim alleged that on or about May 9, 1934, defendant so carelessly, negligently and unskilfully drove a motor car in the Manawatu Gorge that it collided with a motor car driven by C. J. Savage, and in which plaintiff was a passenger. As a result of the collision plaintiff was injured and had incurred expenses for medical attention and also travelling costs. Plaintiff’s upper lip was disfigured and would be permanently scarred, it was alleged. Plaintiff accordingly claimed £3 3s medical expenses. £1 travelling expenses and £SO general damages. 'l’lie facts were admitted and counsel advised the Court that medical opinion secured by both plaintiff and defendant was to the effect that the scar on the upper lip would bo permanent. In that case, commented the Magistrate, the damages did not appear to be excessive aiid he entered judgment for the full amount accordingly.
