Mr W. Pirie, of Stanley Avenue, his friends will regret to learn, was taken suddenly ill last night and was admitted to Hospital.
Mr D. A. Parke, of Wellington, is at present relieving on the Palmerston North Courthouse staff during the absence of Mr S. A. Collier (Deputy-Re-gistrar), on annual leave. Mr J. K. Hornblow and A. J. Pliillipps, chairman and managing secretary, respectively, of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, are attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Hospital Boards’ Association at Napier, Mr F. Slater, of Palmerston North, who was serioasly injured in a motor ear accident near Dannevirke, several weeks ago, was able to return to his home to-day. After resting for a week, he intends visiting Wellington to consult an eye specialist. Colonel F. B. Creswell, of Christchurch, has been elected the first life member of the National Rifle Association, in recognition of his outstanding services to the rifle-shooting movement. Colonel Creswell, who has been president of the association for several years, retired from that position at the annual meeting of the association. Rev. C. B. Matthews, who has been minister of the Palmerston North Baptist Church for the past six years, and who has resigned from his position to visit the Old Country, will leave with Mrs Matthews for Auckland by the first* express on Thursday evening. lie will return south and sail by the Itangitiki from Wellington on March 15, and expects to reach England about April 17. Mrs Matthews will remain in Auckland during Mr Matthews’s absence.
