FEDERAL REVENUE

OUTLOOK MOEE HOPEFUL. A further review of the Federal consolidated revenue account and a revised estimate of revenue and expenditure for the remaining four motnhs of this financial year have disclosed a more satisfactory situation than was evident a few weeks ago, says a Canberra re-

port. It then seemed that there was a definite possibility of the year ending with a' Federal deficit—the first since the Lyons Government took office. This contingency is now highly improbable, and it is expected that the accounts will be balanced. There is, however, no likelihood of any substantial surplus. The evidence of a better outlook for this financial year does not relieve the situation expected to be encountered when the Budget for next year is being framed.
