CANDIDATES FOR RANGITIKEj. AN INTERESTING MORNING. (By “Binocular.”) With this centre having a fairly strong representation at Bulls to-morrow, there was some interesting work executed at Awapuni this morning, when both the course proper and the plough were in use. Th© flags on the former were out beyond the centre of the track. Palm (S. Anderson) was the first to essay fast work, the chestnut filly jumping away at the mile post to come home in 1.34 2-5. She ran her first furlong in 13 4-ssec., and the half mile in 54 2-5 *ec. Palm may have her next outing in the Thompson Handicap at Trentham. Hunting Scone (Mansfield) and Finnesko (Ireland) .were partners over half a mile on the plough, but the former carried too much racing condition for the Defoe colt and was well clear at the finish, running the four furlongs in 54sec\ Rompnlong (Ireland) and a Colossus Snowshoe filly (Mansfield) ran half a mile on the course proper, the last three furlongs being left behind in 40sec. Rompalong was recently brought back into work after an attack of strangles. Severe (L. H. Jones) led Legatee (Anderson) in the early stages of a five-fur-long flutter, but the colt was on terms at the end of the second furlong. They came into the straight together, only for Legatee to drop back. However, he came again in the last 60 yards to be on terms at the finish. They ran the first two furlongs in 25sec. and five in 1.4 2-5. Aiguille (Tattcrsall), Sir Romeo (Jones) and Bacchus Marsh (Anderson) finished at two-length intervals in the order named at the end of five furlongs in 1.6. There was not a great deal of merit in Aiguille s performance, for Sir Romeo lias not been up any great length of time, while Bacchus Marsh has not shown any racing form. Round Up (Anderson) alone, ran tne initial furlong' of his half-mile task m 13 4-ssec. and the full journey in 54 2-ssec. Note Issue (Jones), who followed, ran Bix furlongs in 1.21, after taking 14see. for the first furlong and 40sec. for three. Beau Gallante (Parks), looking little the worse for his trip to Te Aroha, strode along over five furlongs in even time. He appears to have quite recovered from his leg troubles. , _ , Lord Moutoa (Chisholm) and Corroboree (Tattersall) registered quite an, at tract n e ctfort when they came home over five rur--1 on (r s in 1-5. The former is due to have his "first race since his spell in the hac.c sprint to-morrow. • . „ , Bazaine (Anderson) left his first two furlongs behind in 26sec., and live m 1.0 3-5 He appeared to be travelling well Within himself. The chestnut may have A. Jenkins as his pilot to-morrow. Full Throttle (Tattersall) displayed a lot of speed in the early stages of his gallop, the first, three furlongs being left behind in 38sec., but lie .did not maintain the effort, the five furlongs taking 1.5 5-0-AFTER BREAKFAST.

After breakfast, Hilton Gorse (Edwards) ran three furlongs m 39 3-ssec. This Hunting Song filly has not shown any great pace as yet, Rereatu (J. Mclnally) ran half a mile on the plough in 55sec. without being asked to give of his best. Rcrepai (Mclnally) and To Rungitumau (Edwards), on the same track also ran half a mile, Rerepai running the distance m 51 4-ssec. Te Rangitumau hfl3 come back after a long spell and lie retired after running a couple of furlongs. Sweet Music (W. Broughton) and Bold Jim (Jones) ran six furlongs on the plough in 121 1-5, the former shading the lughweig’ht candidate at the finish. There appears to be some uncertainty as to whether Bold Jim will fulfil his engagement. On the course proper, Muggins (J. Kelly) with his trainer in the saddle, took 14sec. for the initial furlong, but improved to run the last three in. 38sec. He was unfortunate enough to strike himself when rounding one of the flags on lh Miss Vango (Broughton) and Tudor (Jones), both of whom will represent L. Knapp’s stable in the maiden event, registered a nice effort by running six furlongs in 1.19 1-5.. They went very fast over the early piece, .the first tinee furlongs being traversed m 38 2-5 and the half-mile in 52soc. Miss Pango was in front at the close, although she was stopP Pango (Parks) and The Drone (W. Fmcoe) were associated in a round over thiee flights of hurdles. Both gave a good display of fencing. GENERAL.

Kipporlie, who was to have had an outing in the Trial Plate to-morrow, will not fulfil her engagement, the Arausio mare having a touch of kidney trouble. ' Happy Hunting and Taumau, who have been absentees from racing for some little time, are again among the workers on . the tracks. Both look very well after then spell. Balbus, who has been troubled with lameness, has also resumed his activities.. W Pine who is budding up a strong team, has’takon in hand a nice type ot a two-year-old by Colossus from Tikimal, a Demosthenes mare from Jean cl Arc. tie stands over plenty of ground and has .a Ye ry smooth action when canteung. ft is not intended to hurry him and next season he should develop into a splendid threeJ< Tho Song-Blue Mint gelding Calydon has been sold by Mr W. G.. Shannon to an Australian sportsman, who is stated to he identical with Synagogue s new owner. Calydon registered Ins best performances last season at rrenthnm where lie won the Trial Handicap at the March meeting and the Highweight Handicap at the July meeting.
