REINFORCEMENTS TO MACEDON lA.
THE EFFECTIVE STRENGTH
Received March 5, 8.5 a.m. LONDON, March 4. Grave news reached .London this morning. The rebels, besides occupying Crete and the most powerful units of the fleet, also occupy part of Eastern Macedonia. The Government is sending reinforcements to Macedonia. M. Tsaldaris is quickly assembling all the forces on air, sea, and land. The Greek Army’s effective strength is 5000 officers and CO,OOO men. 'The infantry is armed with French rifles, guns, and machine-guns, and the artillery with mountain guns and quickfirers. The navy comprises the Averoff (9960 tons), HAlle (2600 tons), ten destroyers, seven torpedo-boats, four mine-layers, six submarines, and a variety of miscellaneous craft. The air force has 150 ’planes and 2379 officers and men trained by British instructors. A British Naval Mission reorganised the navy in 1927-32.
