VISITING ATHLETES.

APPEARANCE IN AYELLINGTON. Per Press Association. AYELLINGTON. March 4. The lowering of the New Zealand 1000 yards record, held by T. G. Broadway, was the outstanding feature of the second appearance of the touring athletes at the Basin Reserve this evening. Burying his opposition, J. A r . Powell covered the distance in 2min 15 1-10 sec, which betters the time set by the Canterbury runner last year by 1-lOsec. Powell from the start was running against records and not the opposition, and his finish against a light wind was electrifying. G. Rampling, competing against the AA’ellington champion, ,T. M. AA’att, in the 440 yards won as lie liked. The Englishmen appeared in two events only, R. M. Craske scratching from the two miles event on account of a strained instep. Perasalo, jumping on a bruised heel, cleared 6ft 3in,_ but failed in three attempts at 6ft olin. Details:—44o yards short limit handicap: Rampling (Britain) scr. 1, AA r att 2. Hill 3. Time, 49jsec. AA r ori my 12 vivds. 1000 yards handicap: Powell (Britain) scr. 1, Rapton (30yds) 2, Ogg (20yds) 3. Time, 2min 15 l-10sec.
