SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC
DELIGHTFUL DAY AT AWAPUNI. Although it has been the practice for years past for the picnic annually conducted by’ All Saints' Church for the Sunday School scholars to bo held at the Ashhurst Domain, the venue was changed to Awapuni this year, the beautiful racecourse having been placed at the picnickers’ disposal by the Menawatu Racing Club. Between 300 and 400 children and parents journeyed to the course by special train on Saturday, while later m the day the numbers grew by the addition of others who had made the trip by car. Although the day was brilliantly fine, the shady trees furnished the elders with a welcome retreat while the children participated in a lengthy sports meeting for prizes, donations from parishioners having made such possible. while drinks, ice-cream and lollies further delighted the hearts of the scholars. Miss Iv. Cutler superintended the kindergarten sports; Miss Harwood the girls and Mr J. Renniek the boys’ section. A mothers’ race was also presented, but while Mrs Clark (Kairanga) was returned the winner to take a prize, Mrs Polglase won the handsome cake which had been donated by Mrs Boniface, the competitors little realising that the race was not to the swiftest, but to the whipperin.
Associated with the All Saints’ Sunday Schol in the outing were the pupils of the Taltaro, North Street and West End ,branch schools, and the Longburn and Kairanga Sunday Schools, the function being voted by all to have been one of the most successful ever held.
