LAMB TRADE STEADIER. MUTTON PRICES EASIER. Tho lamb market is steadier; prices are unchanged for lightweights with heavyweights slightly easier. Lower prices stimulating consumption. Mutton market: Wethers, better trade for lightweights; others dull. Ewes, dull with prices easier Beef market: Low prices, chilled beef affecting demand for frozen beef. The above report was received on Saturday by the Meat Bourd from its London office, which advises that the following are the approximately average prices realised for tho week ended March 1, baaed on actual trarnractions of wholesale _ quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and nro for representative pnrcols of the goods offering during tho week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market, and/or ex London stores. The lamb market is steadier., says a cable message received by Levin and Co., Ltd., from their London agents. The mutton market is quiet, and prices do not appear to have reached bottom. Compared with the previous week’s quotations lamb is, 3d per lb lowor, with the exception of crossbred lamb, 281 b to 361 b, which is unchanged. Wethers, 561 b to 721 b, 3d per lb lower. Ewes, 3d per lb lower. The Bank of New Zealand (produce department) has received the following advice from its London offico as at clcse of business last week: —The market is firmer for Hgihtor-woight- wethers. -The market (or ewes is dull. There is a better demand for lambs with a steadier market. The market is short of supplies of beef, and prices are nominal. FEILDING SALE. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Coy., Ltd., report on Feildinn sale:—'The tono of the market for all classes of sheep was very firm, and prices all round showed a considerable increaso on Ihose ruling at the previous week’s sale. Several lines of good 2-tooth ewes came forward and met with keen competition, the bulk of this section being purchased for shipment to other districts. All sound lines of aged owes suitable for fat lamb raising were in very strong demand and values improved by from Is to 2s per head on late sales. A good yarding of fat ewes sold freely at a rise of 2s per head. Store lambs were in full supply and sold up to late rates. The beef market for all classes showed an improvement and values appear likely to remain firm for some time. Store and dairy cattle were yarded in small numbers and the inquiry was slack with no alteration in prices. FOR FOWL WHEAT. LAST SEASON’S MILLING. Owing to the difficulty experienced by North Island buyers in obtaining supplies of fowl wheat, the Wheat Purchase Board has decided to relieve the position by selling last season’s milling wheat, to go direct to distributive channels in tho North Island. The price will bo 4s 4d a bushel, f.0.b., Lyttelton or Timaru. After providing for 1,000,000 bushels of last season's milling wheat sold to millers for delivery next month, tho board has about 800,000 bushels of last season’s crop in store.

Probably owing to the short notice (sa,y3 the Christchurch Star) there have not yet been many inquiries from the North Island for tho board’s stocks.
