SERIOUS GRASS FIRE.
PICNIC PARTIES TRAPPED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Alarch 1. A serious grass fire broke out at Diamond Harbour this morning and, fanned by a north-west wind, menaced the settlement. Several picnic parties were trapped for a time and two boys received painful burns. Others who had been bathing lost portion of their clothes. The annual Christchurch Boys’ High School picnic was proceeding and 300 of these boys, under Air G. J. Lancaster, quelled the outbreak after a thrilling battle.
