FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent,) FQXTON, March 1. The death occurred in the Palmerston North Hospital on Thursday night of MiHector P. S. Berry, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H. Berry, of Thynno Street, Fox ton. Ho was born in Foxton in 1918 and educated at- the local District High School obtaining his proficiency certificate and boing dux boy of the school, as well as winning tho Bock Memorial Prize, in 1930. In tho same year he also won a Junior National Scholarship. In 1933 he passed the matriculation examination; and in 1934 obtained his higher leaving certificate. This year he was senior prefect of the school. Deceased ranked scholastically among tho most, successful of the school’s pupils of recent years. He took a prominent part in tho Methodist Sunday School, of which ho was a teacher, and Bible class activities of the town. Ho was a keen swimmer and it was while practising this sport recently that he became ill. His illness lasted only a week and his death came as a .shock to all who knew him. Maori: Births, nil (2); deaths, nil (ml). During February rain fell locally on seven days, a total of 3.39 inches being recorded. The maximum' daily fall was 1.48 inches on the 20th. Tho hottest day was (lie 9th., with a temperature of 80 degrees, and tlie coldest day was the 25th with 57 degrees.
