A WOMAN'S TRIUMPH.
Largely by her high marks in the new “subject” of personality (she obtained 250 out of 300), an English girl, Miss Audrey J. Lenfestey, has obtained one of the two coveted vacancies in the examination of the Department of Overseas Trade for intelligence officers. Few expected that a woman would gain this distinction. Miss Lenfestey will begin her career as a kind of apprentice for several years, and her salary scale will be from £215 to £3Ol. At the expiration of this term, however, and in the ordinary course of 'promotion, she may advance to the positions of assistant director and director, with maximum salaries respectively of £IOSS and £1360. Apart from this, she is eligible for appointment as commercial secretary at any embassy abroad, and might also attain the rank of trade commissioner at the colonial trade centre. Women have made a big onslaught on the important positions in the Civil Service during the past year, but this is a very noteworthy triumph.
