PIPE BANDS.
DECISIONS AT CONFERENCE. Per Press Association. TIMARU, Feb. 16. At the annual pipe band conference Mr T. Gilchrist (Dunedin) presided and the delegates were welcomed by the president of the Tnnaru 1 ipe A remit by Dunedin that the winning band be awarded the following medals—the pipe-major and drummajor gold medals, and the remainder silver medals—was carried. Mr McCall moved a remit from Dunedin that a contest be staged for drummers. It was emphasised that pipers and drummers were only parts of the unit and it would be unwise to make the distinction. Alter some discussion the remit was withdrawn. It was decided that the_ entry fee for contests should he £5 os, without a refund. A remit that the selected items bo sent to all bands nine months before the contest was withdrawn. After a discussion on the halving _ ol points it was agreed that the- points should not be halved. The following executive remit was carried:—“That a special general meeting be held wherever a Dominion contest is held, and the annual meeting be held where the executive are domiciled.” The following officers were elected : President: Mr Telfer (Christchurch); vice-presidents: South Island, Mr T. Gilchrist (Dunedin) ; North Island, Mr G. Laughlan (Wellington) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Johnson (Christchurch) ; auditor, Mr G. Seay (Christchurch) .
