CASE ADJOURNED
CHARGES AT DUNEDIN. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Feb. 15. The hearing of illegal betting charges arising from raids by the police on several hotels early in the afternoon of January 26, a day on which there was considerable racing activity throughout the Dominion, was commenced before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., in the Police Court this morning.. The first charges taken were two against Mabel Quirk, wile of the licensee of tho St. Kilda Hotel, of using the kitchen of the hotel as a common gaming-house. Robert Pedda.r Crawford, a barman, was charged on two counts with using the bar of this hotel as a common gaming house, and Martin Quirk, the licensee, with using his premises as a common gaming-house and also with permitting them to he used for such purpose. Evidence was given by Clara Eden, a. police matron, and Constable Gumming with respect to several bets made with Mabel Quirk and with the barman, Crawford. After the evidence for the prosecution was concluded, the hearing was adjourned sine die.
