MASTER BAKERS.
DECISIONS AT CONFERENCE. Per Press Association. ' CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 15. The New Zealand Master Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Association, at the annual conference, discussed the question of the price of bread to relief workers. After consideration in committee it was reported that it had been agreed to leave the fixing of such prices to individual associations. The conference also discussed remits from Canterbury and Auckland proposing that the association register as an employers’ union in case it might be desired to initiate proceedings under the I.C. and A. Act. The country delegates opposed the suggestion because the city and country linkers worked under entirely different conditions. The president (Mr Claude Cowan, Auckland) said the association wanted power to make a Dominion award if it became necessary. If action was contemplated the local associations would be consulted and the executive would not take steps that would bo against the interests of some members of the association.
It was decided that the executive take whatever steps wore necessary to bring the association into line in the matter.
The conference elected the following officials:—President: Mr C. C. Lange (Invercargill) ; vice-presidents, Messrs J. O. Boniface (Palmerston North) and R. T. Norton (Lyttelton) ; executive, Messrs C. E. Boon (Christchurch') ; J. T. Norton, R. T. Norton (Lyttelton), P. Dunn (Ashburton), C. H.” Thomas, G. LI. Taigcl (Christchurch) and T. B. Mason (Hornby) : representatives on the Wheat Research Institute, the president and Messrs C. E. Boon and C. Cowan (Auckland). It was decided to hold next year s conference at Wanganui.
