OROUA COUNTY FINANCES.

SATISFACTORY POSITION SHOAVN. Moving the adoption of the treasurer’s report at yesterday’s meeting of the Oroua County Council, the chairman (Cr. A. Campbell) said it disclosed a very satisfactory position. It would be remembered by the council, he said, that this year the council had had to provide an additional £SOO out of revenue to meet the increased hospital levy of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, the levy in 1933-34 being £lß9l, whereas this year it had risen to £2395. Despite this increased amount, which had been imposed after the council’s rate notices ha.d been drawn up, the chairman thought the council would be able to get through alright, but there was no doubt that the council would, next year, have to face the matter of an increase in the hospital rate. The treasurer (Mr R. L. Harding) stated that there was about £SOOO outstanding in revenue at present. Referring to the council’s finances generally, the chairman said there appeared to be little possibility of a reduction in the general rate, particularly if the present expenditure on road maintenance was to continue. The report was adopted.
