THE STOCK MARKETS.

JOHNSONVILLE EWE FAIR. At Johnsonville on Monday, Wright, Stephenson and Co., Lfd., held a successful ewe fair. There was a very large attendance of buyers present from Masterton, Lower Wairarapa, Levin, and Manawatu districts, besides the usual attendance of local fanners. A yarding of 6038 sheep, mostly ewes, was submitted. Ewes from the bill country adjacent to Wellington arc keenly sought after, as they do well when shifted to the better pastures up country. This particularly applies to the big framed Romney cross owes suitable for fat lamb rearing.

There was a keen demand at auction for all classes of owes and practically a total clearance was effected at prices that must be considered satisfactory to vendors. Sheep generally came forward in good order, with the exception of lambs, which were showing the effects of the dry weather. Good-conditioned black-faced lambs were keenly sought after, while whiic-faced lambs were not in such good demand. Realisations were as follow: Account W.
