The committee of the Manawatu Automobile Association met last evening, Mr N. H. Muckie presiding. Otners present were Messrs D. Collts, It. T. Jaggard, W. H. Brown, E. S. Oliver and Dr. E. C. Crichton) stated that during this period he had covered a distance of 1390 miles. Roads had been patrolled and all members’ cars inspected for delects at the Manawatu and Marton race meetings. Both these meetings called for a considerable variety of service work, more especially at Marton, where the ignition on a large number of vehicles was affected by heavy rain. The traffic on the main highways during the holiday period appeared to he far in excess of that of the previous year, and many motorists intimated that, were it not for the camping facilities provided, their touring would have to be restricted. The camp site was visited twice daily during the holiday period, and several members bad received assistance in various ways. “Fourteen new members have been enrolled and 19 subscriptions collected,” added the report. The calls on the first aid outfit resulted in its being completed. This has now been replaced. Several membors have received touring itineraries covering the complete proposed route they intended
lo travel, and have expressed themselves pleased with the information supplied.” —The report was adopted. The Wanganui Automobile Association wrote stating that it lmd been suggested that if any member of an Automobile Association should win the motor rally event to be held shortly appreciation of this should be recorded by granting for three years, without any charge, the full privileges of membership. The South Taranaki Association had signified their willingness to adopt this course, and the opinion of the Manawatu Association was sought.—lt was decided to cooperate on the lines suggested. Mention was made that lupins were overhanging the track at the Raumai picnic ground, and it was decided to seek permission from the owner of the property to cut them. It was decided that a letter of appreciation be forwarded to the Kairanga Council for the improvements effected to two bends near Palmerston North on the Napier Road. Appreciation was expressed of the assistance given by the service officer on the occasion of the recent fatal accident at Rangiotu. Messrs Mackie and McKenzie were appointed the delegates of the association to the half-yearly meeting of the North Island Motor Union at Wellington on February 5.
