EXTRACTS FROM “ STANDARD.” JANUARY 19, 1905. Conflicting reports wore coming to hand as to the whereabouts of tho Russian Baltic Fleet, which was on its way to the East. It was. known that the fleet hat been refused permission to coal at Severn’ points on route. A &t. Petersburg message said tho Czar had decided not to recall the fleet, even though Port Arthur had fallen to the Japanese. Tho Nambucca had struck near Tom’s Rock, at Terawhiti, said a Wellington message, and was likely to become a total wreck. Tho vessel, which was of 126 tens, struck during a dense fcg. Tho Kairanga County Council had decided not to recognise any responsibility as to the state of the Manawatu Gorge Road and a deputation had waited on the council asking that it bo improved. A. wrestling match for the championship of New Zealand had been arranged to take place in Palmerston Nortl. between Harry Sandow champion of Australia, and G. Carlson, ot Danncvirke, champion of Now Zealand.
It was mentioned in a paragraph recording an accident, in which a Palmerston North man received injuries through a horse falling when rearing, thai the patient “was taken to the Hospital in the hospital van,”
