NEW DAIRY BOARD

ELECTION REGULATIONS. POLL PROBABLE IN MARCH. (By Telegraph.—Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 18. The complete procedure for the election of three members of the new Dairy Board is published in the Gazette, and it is probable that the elec"'ill be completed by the middle of March. This will coincide with the dissolution of the existing board, as it is not desirable to have any interval during which there will be no authority to act on behalf of the indus try.

When time is allowed for the completion of the roll, the nomination of candidates, and the poll, it is clear that the date previously mentioned will be reached before the new board can 1 unction. The three members to be appointed by the Government will also take office after the dissolution of the present board, though in view of the coming elections the Government will probably announce its selection before candidates go to the Poll. The regulations show that while the roll is made up of persons or associations who own or occupy a dairy factory, and the voting is to be on a tonnago basis, the electoral roll must contain the name of some person who will be authorised to cast the votes. Therefore, all prospective voting .interests will at ones receive a copy of the regulations, and they will be asked to name the individual who will exercise their votes. Then the final roll will be compiled, though there must be a further interval of seven days for receipt by the chief returning officer (Mr G. G. Hodgkins) of objections. After this, any voting company may within a further seven days following the closing of the roll, forward a nomination of a candidate, and its power in this respect is limited to one candidate. Finally, the returning officer will announce the date of closing the election, which is to be not less than 21 days after nominations. Voting papers are to be distributed and returned bv post, and every candidate will be entitled to appoint a scrutineer to watch, the counting of votes under the returning officer’s direction in Wellington.
