ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE.

A Madrasi, named Lazarus, was sentenced at Calcutta to five years’ imprisonment with lull'd labour for the attempted murder of Mrs Evans, wife of l)r Evans, assistant military surgeon at Jubbulpore, Central Provinces. No motive for the crime was established. The evidence showed that Lazarus rushed into a shop and struck Mrs Evans twice on the head with a chopper. He attempted to escape, but was arrested. Lazarus protested his innocence. He said lie was a passer-by, and was accused of the crime.
