THE MEDICAL SCHOOL.
ADMISSION OF STUDENTS. DISCUSSION BY SENATE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 17. A restriction on the number of students admitted to the Otago Medical School was discussed by the University Senate to-day. The executive reported having received notice from the Otago University that it could not accommodate all the candidates who were likely to desire admission to the Medical School in 1935 and asking for cooperation in making the selection. The committee recommended: (a) That the Senate give credits for the B.Sc. or B.A. degree to any candidate who, passing the intermediate examination in 1934, was shut out from the Medical School and desires to continue his studies for the degree in arts or science; (b) that the Senate set up a special committee to consider the system of medical education in New Zealand and report to the Senate in 1936. The Vice-Chancellor (Professor T. A. Hunter) said that if it was felt that the students should receive some consideration credits should be given, say, in chemistry, physics, and biology at the Bachelor of Science stage. Mr F. A. De La Mare said there should be a wider discussion on limitation. The matter was revolutionarj' and most important. The Senate adopted clause A regarding credits and clause B was postponed for a full discussion to-morrow.
