Mr and Mrs J. R. Hughes, of Palmerston North, aro spending a holiday at Paraparaumu. Mrs C. E. Macmillan and Misses Urania and Violet Macmillan, who have been in Taura.nga for the past month, have returned to Wellington. Mrs J. Buchanan, of Feilding, is a visitor to New Plymouth as the guest of Mrs J. L. Perry. Mrs Clementina Grant Haynes, a daughter of the late Mr A. J. Burns, of Dunedin, and relict of the late,Mr J. W. H. Haynes, passed away in Wellington, yesterday. Her father was a. grand-nephew of the immortal Robert Burns, the renowned Scottish poet, so that she was a great grand-niece of Robert Burns. The honour of having a flower named after her has fallen to Miss Sheila MacDonald, daughter of Britain’s Prime Minister, Mr Ramsay MacDonald. While in Nelson Miss MacDonald visited Mr G. Branford’s begonia house in the Wood and said it was one of the finest exhibitions of its kind she had ever seen. For some time Mr Branford has been waiting for a suitable name for one of his choice flowers and upon his suggestion Miss MacDonald gave her ready consent to his naming the plant Sheila MacDonald. The visitor said she had had many kindnesses extended to her jn Australia, and New Zealand, but had never received such an honour as having a flower named after her.
