FRONTIER DISPUTE.
IRAQ AND PERSIA. GENEVA, Jan. 15. Appearing again in the popular role of peacemaker, Mr R. A. Eden (British Lord Privy Seal) at the meeting of the League Council proposed that the Permanent Court of- International Justice should be asked for a ruling upon the Persia-Iraq frontier dispute. The Council decided that Baron Aloisi should confer with both parties with a view to securing an amicable agreement on Mr Eden’s proposals. ITALIAN FRONTIER, ABYSSINIAN MEMORANDUM. (British Official Wireless.) Received Januarv 17, 11.45 a.m. RUGBY, Jan. 16. The Abyssinian Government’s memorandum in reference to the recent incidents on the Italo-Abyssinian frontier has been lodged with the Secre-tary-General of the League of Nations (M. Avenol) with the request that tho matter should bo inscribed in the Council’s order of the day. There is no request for dealing with the matter, as there is no urgency and hopes are still entertained that an amicable settlement may be reached.
