WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.

YESTERDAY’S BUSINESS AND PRICES. The Wellington stock and share market was quiet yesterday, but with a firm tone. Government loans were in strong demand, with buyers raising their offers for several of the issues, but there were very few sellers in the market, and no sales were recorded. Bank shares were again firm. New Zealand continued to move up, with a sale at 49s 6d, and lato buyers offering 49s 5d with sellers holding for 49s Bd. Commercial of Australia, cum dividend, were done at 16s 5(1, and Union. Melbourne register, at £9 3s. Insurance shares were very firm. New Zealand, following the announcement of the interim dividend, advanced 6d to £3 9s with no sellers. South British were wanted at £4 17s, sellers asking £4 18s 6d, while National of New Zealand were wanted at 22s with no sellers. In the meat section New Zealand Refrigerating issues were quiet, sellers asking 21s 5d for the £1 paid, while the 10s paid dropped to 10s 2d, with no buyers in either case. New Zealand Breweries sold late on Tuesday at 52s 6d, while buyers yesterday advanced their offers 4d to 52s od, sellers asking 52s 9d.
