FILLING THEIR BATHS.

WEST COASTERS TAP STREAM. Keen to have a party of Christchurch swimmers compete in their town during the holidays, but hampered by the fact that drought conditions had left only a foot of water in the baths, the residents of Ross, .on the West Coast, rose nobly to the occasion in real Coast style. In quick time the main road was dug up and pipes were laid to a nearby creek, while from another supply water was obtained through a lead of hose a thousand feet long. The hole in the road was roughly boarded up for the convenience of traffic and the filling of the baths proceeded. _ Sleep meant nothing to these enthusiasts, who remained on the spot until three in the morning when the water level was considered satisfactory. Then the road was filled in, the hose and pipes were removed and the community went happily to bed. ready for a most successful swimming meeting later in the dav.
