ABOLITION OF RIDINGS.

SUGGESTION FOR KAIRANGA. For some time past the Kairanga County Council has been considering the advisability of amalgamating the ridings for general rating purposes. At to-day’s meeting of the council tho question was again discussed, Crs. Jos. Batchelar and R. A. Mercer pressing for it. The former stressed the handicap under which the Fitzherbert riding ratepayers laboured by reason of the poorer qualify of the land which they farmed, the speaker contending that the riding would have to receive financial assistance from either the other ridings or the Main Highways Board. The other members considered that the time was not opportune to introduce the scheme, and it was decided not to carry the matter further in the meantime.
