OUTBREAKS IN WAIRARAPA

Per Press Association. MASTER!ON, Jan. 14. Fairly extensive areas of grasslands in various parts of the district 11 been swept by fire during the past few weeks and large bands of volunteer have been engaged in the strenuous task of checking the spread. An area of about 400 acres, some seven miles from Carterton, was swep to-day, and in spite of the ehorts of about 50 men, the flames seriously threatened Carter’s Bush, a beautiful area of native bush. The fire actually reached the scrub at the outskirts of the bush before being checked late 11 the evening. , , , .. . The danger of the bush catching hie remains imminent and a largo party of men is camping out to-night m case of emergency.
