TAIKOREA, .lan. 14. The long dry spell lies had its effect, the milk supply dropping rapidly and early. The rain came too late to materially affect the steady drop in supply. The Taikorea Dairy Coy., is now running two vats, making 20 cheeses daily. The third assistant, Mr F. Locke, commenced his annual leave on Sunday. Saturday was a big day for local tennis enthusiasts, this being the first day’s play for the silver buttons, and a large number of members were present. The buttons were played for on handicaps arranged by the club captain, and many very good games were witnessed, several of the lower players showing much improved form. The day was ideal for tennis, fine but cloudy, with no troublesome sun to worry players. The buttons were awarded to Miss Radience Hill and C. Short. The following are the scores and handicaps:—First round: A. Burmicster (1) lost to C. Short (—1). 19—22: G. Hobbs (4) lost to R. Print (5), 15—21: Miss Cornwall (1) lost to Miss Standen (3), 17--21; Mrs Print (8) beat Miss Mudford (6), 21 —19: Gibsone Hill (11) beat A. Castles (7), 21—19: Hill and Mrs Castle secured a bye. Second round : Miss Hill (—8) beat Miss Standen (3), 29 12: C. Short ( —1) beat R. Hill (7). 22 —17: Mrs Print (8) lost to Mrs Castle (5), 21-18: Gibsone Hill (11) beat R. Print (5), 21—19. Finals: Miss Hill 1 teat Mrs Castle. 29 15: G. Hill lost to C. Short, 22—13. Since the inception of the ladder, much greater interest has bepe shown in the tennis, the courts being busy every nighi Several ladder matches have been played, those during the last week resulting as follow : Miss Murphy beat Mrs Print, 6—3; Miss Hill beat Mrs Burmicster. 6 —3; R. Print beat A. Castle, 9—2: Miss Standen beat Mrs Castle. 6—2: Mrs Castle beat Miss Lorna Mudford, 6—5: Mrs Pricr beat Miss Murphv, 6—3; C. Short beat R. Algar, 9—6; R. Algar beat A. Burmiester, 9—6, Burmicster beat G. Hobbs, 9 5. Miss Grace Smith is the guest of Mrs Richmond. Mr and Mrs F. Locke have left for a holiday to lie spent at Johnsonville, where they will be the guests of Mr and Mrs Hopping. Mrs C. Sanson is at present away on holiday, accompanied by her daughter.
